It is estimated that there are around 7,000 accessible locked public toilets around the country. The organisation RADAR would like all accessible toilets to be kept open, but some providers have concerns over vandalism and misuse, hence having to lock their facilities. This is where the National Key Scheme (NKS) comes in.
RADAR supplies keys to individuals and charities , they do need to make a small charge to cover costs (non-profit making). Law demands this charge has VAT added, but individuals providing their name, address and making the following written declaration will get their key VAT free.
“I declare that I/the individual name above is chronically sick or has a disabling condition and is eligible to claim VAT relief for disabled people. The key for accessible toilets being ordered is for my/their domestic and personal use only”.
To order a key and for more information please use the link below, and hit the “RADAR-SHOP” link at the top of the page.
Please note, the toilets are the responsibilty of the providers concerned (ie property owners) , and as such, any queries or problems concerning a toilet should be directed to that provider, rather than RADAR.
