BLUE BADGE SCHEME

For on-street parking the UK’s Blue Badge Scheme is available to people with severe mobility problems and who find public transport difficult to use. To apply for a Blue Badge parking permit contact your local council.

HOW THE SCHEME WORKS

Blue Badge holders are allowed to park for up to 3 hours (England and Wales) on single or double yellow lines whilst displaying the Blue Badge and setting the arrival time on the special blue parking time disc.

EXEMPTIONS

  • There is no time limit on single or double yellow lines in Scotland
  • Where there is a loading or unloading ban.
  • Where local schemes operate
  • The 4 London Boroughs (City of London, City of Westminster, Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea and part of London Borough of Camden). For these areas go to the Blue Badge website to see location of Blue Badge Bays on the Blue Badge Map.
  • Off-street car parks and private roads
  • Airports in general (see Blue Badge Map for airport parking).

Parking at on-street parking meters and pay-and-display machines is free unless there is a traffic sign stating a time limit.

Go to the Government Disability website for further information and to check on scheme differences in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Badge holders who have a vehicle that is exempt from road tax under the ‘disabled’ class are exempt from the London Congestion Charge. For full details go to the Transport for London website.
