1. Love Run 9 February 2008, London, Cardiff, Manchester

   LONDON, CARDIFF, MANCHESTER LOVE RUN 2008.

   This is our running event of the year organised by Action Duchenne.  So it needs to be BIG, and for everyone to feel the love and join us on the 9th february for a valentines run. So if you live in London, Cardiff or Manchester then we would love for you to get involved either by taking part of by helping out.

   Conference day for Duchenne organised by Rachel Salmon of the newborn screening service in Wales and sponsored by Action Duchenne.

   Speakers include Michelle Eagle Newcastle Neuromuscular Centre speaking on physiotherapy and respiratory care. Louise Hartley Paediatric neuromuscular consultant from Cardiff. Rachel Salmon from the newborn screening service. Nick Catlin from Action Duchenne reviewing the latest clinical trials and the DMD Registry. Janet Hoskin Include Duchenne Project Manager talking about related learning and behaviour problems.

1. Flora London Marathon 13 April 2008, London

   The Flora London Marathon is the running event of the year. This cruelling event attracts nearly 40,000 runners, huge media attention and lots of funds for charitable causes.  

   This is a great event to take part in and often a lifetime achievement.  If you are already running in the Marathon choose Action Duchenne as your charity, and help raise much needed funds and awareness.

1. 'Good Old Days' 25 April 2008, Oxford

   If you live in Oxford and fancy a night of good music, food and wine while helping raise vital funds for a cure for Duchenne then you should make your way down to  the musical event 'The Good Old Days'.  A musical Concert of brass and keyboards based on the theme of the 'Good old Days' performed by the band 'Last Minute Wonders'.

1. Sheffield Half Marathon 27 April 2008, Sheffield
   Sunday 27th April 2008 at Don Valley Stadium at 9:30am

   Half Marathon requires dedicated training before the event. The start and finish will be in the magnificent Don Valley Stadium, with the Half Marathon once again following the runner- and spectator-friendly route through the city centre.

1. Abbotswood Garden Open Day 11 May 2008, Abbotswood, Lower Swell, Cheltenham

   Abbotswood Garden Open Day is taking place on the 11th May 2008 from 1:30pm - 6:00pm. £4 for adults, children go free. Abbotswood, Lower Swell, Cheltenham, GL54 1LG.

    

   

1. Annual General Meeting 18 May 2008, London

   Our AGM will be held at the Epicentre 1-4pm on Sunday 18th May from 1-4pm.  The AGM will give you a chance to meet and hear about the latest updates on international research projects. Key clinical trials are happening in Holland and the UK for an exon skipping Gene Theraphy. There are planned trials for PTC124 in three UK centres this year and Summit plc are planning trials for Utrophin up regulation drug. You will also be able to review the charities progress and elect new charity officers.

1. Manchester 10K 18 May 2008, Manchster

   With around 25,000 participants, the Bupa Great Manchester Run is the largest 10k run in the World. If you want to get fit and support us join us on this great run.

1. Edinburgh Marathon and Hairy Haggis Team Relay 25 May 2008, Edinburgh

   The Edinburgh Marathon is a great event, in a great location, and is accessible to anyone who wants to take part. Its a great run for charity, you get to lots of support, have a great day out and raise money for a good cause. So if you register to run for the Edinburgh Marathon then why not run for Action Duchenne.

   If you dont want to do the whole of the marathon then join us on The 'Hairy Haggis' Team Relay.

   We have places  for four teams, this popular race is great fun. The 'Hairy Haggis' Team Relay  was introduced to give athletes of all abilities the opportunity to run along the same course of the marathon without having to run the 26.2 miles individually. Teams of four then run splitting the distance between them, the longest leg is approximately 8 miles and the shortest leg is approximately 5 miles. 

   So are you a team player? If you are then why not get a group of your friends or family together and organise some joint fundraising and training.  So take up the challenge and raise some much needed funds for Action Duchenne.

   The Bupa London 10k will take place on the May bank holiday starting at 10 am and will have 12,500 entrants.  The race will start and Finish in St James Park, where there will be a picnic for the runners with families and supporters.  This is an exciting race and places are going fast, so come and join and run for a cure for duchenne.

1. London to Paris Cycle Ride 11 June 2008 - 15 June 2008, London to Paris

   This is a trip of a lifetime, if you feel you can take on the challenge then please contact us as places are going fast. 

1. Half Iron Man 15 June 2008, Exmoor, Devon
   Why not enter the ulitimate challenge the Half Iron Man and test your stamina, fitness and strength.  Starting at 6am in Wimball lake in Exmoor, you will Swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles, run 13.1 miles. If you decide to take on the Iron Man Challenge, why not get sponsored for Action Duchenne.  You can test your stamina and raise funds for resarch for duchenne.

1. Lobby of British Parliament 18 June 2008, London

   Come along to our Lobby Day at Westminister and lobby your MP in Parliament. This is an important event and should be put in everyones diary.  Come and spend the day with us helping raise awareness and demanding the government continues to put greater funding into research and clinical trials which are desperately need to cure Duchenne.

1. Asics British 10k 6 July 2008 - 6 July 2008, Central London

   The eight annual ASICS British 10k London Run will once again take place through the heart of central London this summer.  The race starts at 9.35 at the legendary Hard Rock Cafe on Picadilly.  Taking part will be Olympic athletes and celebrities of stage and screen alongside of tens of thousands of recreational and fun runners.    Grand parents Marion and Keith Maynard will be travelling 200 miles around Dorset, Devon and Cornwall in one day just using buses.

   80 mile cycle ride in one day!

   A team from Hull, Mike Grant, Gary Low, Jo Van Rensburge and Chris Lloyd will start off  Dolby Forest doing 24 miles through and round Dolby Forest then over the North Yorkshire Moors and head to Whitby.  A combined total of 80 miles in one day through and over, very rough terrain.

   Swimmers from all over the country are taking part in the first annual 2swim4life. Swimming a mile on the hour, every hour for 24 hours at High Wycombe Sport Centre.    The Great North Run is now in its 28th year, this exciting run has over 50,000 runners.  It has an electric atmosphere as thousands of supporters line the route through Newcastle, Southshields, Morecambe. So why not getting your running shoes on and run for Team Action Duchenne. By paying a £30 non refundable registration fee, you are guaranteed a place, and we ask our runners to raise £300 sponsorship.  You will receive a guarantee place, a runners vest or T-shirt, a kit bag and you can join our runners forum, where you can get advice and tips on training with our resident marathon runner, Mike Jenkins.

1. Myerscough College Charity week 'Duck for Duchenne' 6 October 2008 - 10 October 2008, Myerscough College Preston

   Thank you to the Floral art and design department in Myerscough college who have chosen us as their charity for the colleges charity week. Inspired by the yellow of our tshirts staff will be wearing duck suits throughout the week and encouraging staff and students to raise money through hook a duck, champagne and chocolate raffle, and sales of flowers biscuits and cakes.

   The Bupa Great South Run

   Why not take part in the Uk most popular flattest 10 mile road race.  The Bupa Great South Run takes you along some of the most scenic  south coast views in Portsmouth.  If you would like to join Team Action Duchenne on this fantastic run then why not register your interest today, we are asking all runners to pay a £30 non refundable registration fee and to raise a minimum of £200 sponsorship.  You will recieve a gauranteed place in the run, a runners vest or T-shirt and a Kit bag.
