Independent Living

Care Management Services (CMS) exists to promote, encourage and achieve independent living for sufferers of Neuromuscular Conditions. We specialise in providing care for people living with Duchenne to enable them to achieve ambitions, push boundaries and live full and meaningful lives. Our Care Teams are built with and around each Client and are given extensive training in meeting that indiviual's needs and preferences. From assisting in setting up the care package, sourcing funding and accommodation and managing the care teams, CMS provide a full range of advocacy and care services

Our History

CMS was born from the drive and determination of Gordon McClurg to overcome the limitations Duchenne placed upon him and go to University. He and his family, Marion (Mum) and Norvil (Dad) set out to make Gordon's dream a reality. Accommodation, funding and care was put in place and Gordon was then able to attend Uni and graduate with a 2:1 in Business from the University of Northumbria. News spread and Gordon was approached by other young men as to how he'd achieved this and could he help them do something similar. With Gordon's insight into DMD and his business skills, he realised there was an opportunity to provide a service to sufferers of neuromuscular conditions and so he started Care Management Services in 2004!

Our People

Our Care Teams are recruited primarily from the student population. This ties-in well with the fact that our clients are usually students who, like Gordon wish to achieve their aspirations and ambitions. Our Clients, with the support of their care team, are able to travel, attend social events, music festivals and gigs, pursue interests in the arts and theatre, etc... the list is endless, only bound by the scope of the Client's own preferences and aspirations. Clients and familes are actively involved in recruiting and training the care teams from the outset, and family and client support is crucial and implicit in what we do as an organisation. All aspects of managing the package are covered by CMS, leaving the client to persue his dreams and ambitions,
free of many of the limitations previously experienced by people with neuromuscular conditions.
