I have worked in the building/construction industry for over 30 years. About three years ago I started working with a good friend - Kevin Lamacq, predominately working in property development. Kevin also has a son, Alfie aged 8 who has a disability - suffering from Perthes. Two years ago my wife, Mary, James and I moved into a detached bungalow, which needed some refurbishment work and would also need to be adapted for James. Kevin kindly agreed to work with me for the 6 weeks it took to make the property habitable. For the last two years we have worked with our local authority's adaptation team to provide James with a ramp, accessible bedroom and bathroom. As a family we have a good relationship with the adaptation team and our O.T. and it was agreed that our company would carry out the adaptation work. We completed this work in the Autumn of last year. Given our own personal experience in providing access for our sons and also noting the lack of building companies with specialist knowledge, experience and empathy with disabled clients, we now specialise in disabled adaptations and access.
As a company we wish to support Action Duchenne.
We are hoping to organise events to help raise funds for Action Duchenne.
Any suggestions for events would be appreciated and if any other companies would be interested in joining forces to raise money for the charity please get in touch!
The idea behind the showroom came from our own experiences. When Mary, James and I first starting planning the adaptation, we soon realised that there was no where to go to see a working model of equipment. You can only choose from a brochure and the first time you see the equipment is when it is installed in your property!
The showroom will be open to all and will have working models of ramps, handrails, external disabled width door, step-lift, XY hoist system, wetroom with level access shower, rise and fall bath, doc M disabled WC, none-slip flooring, interal disabled access doors, fitted kitchen with rise and fall units and worksurfaces.
Our intention is to offer support, guidance and advice for anyone taking on the daunting task of disabled adaptation. There is no high pressure sales, just a friendly and informal service.
