Why I Am Here.. - AJsFairyGodmother

I had known Jamie since I was 5, he was the brother of my best friend, we watched football matches and movies together, went out for day trips and had fun. Jamie was 9 years older than me and I loved him like a brother, even though I have 2 of my own! Jamie passed away when he was 19 after his long battle with DMD, then, I didn't know what he had wrong with him, now I fully understand.

Jamie's sister and I are all grown up now and she has her own babies, one boy and one girl, Alfie is the most gorgeous little boy, good as gold too! I love him like he's my own. Sadly, Alfie has DMD too... this is why I am here. I do not want a repeat of history and will do anything to stop it. It's horrid to know exactly what might happen to Alfie if a cure isn't found soon, he may only be a year old now but the sooner the cure is found, the better!

I am with you there. My wonderful brother was diagnosed at the age of 3. I watched him grow up and deteriorate. He passed away at the age of 20. My little boy was diagnosed at 8wks, after not knowing I was a carrier until after he was born. It's hard knowing what's coming, but I take each day at a time and live life to the full. My beautiful baby is 17 months now and almost walking.

I also have a daughter, who is 3, she may be a carrier too, but hopefully medical science will improve. Fingers crossed xx
