About Us

I was born in Malawi and lived in Zimbabwe until 1998 when I met Richard, got married and moved to the UK - Richard hails from Sevenoaks and once everything was turning sour in Zimbabwe we decided to move here.
Matthew was diagnosed with Duchenne in March 08 and that was when our world was turned upside down - He was quite a late diagnosis at 5 years old as we went through 2 years of paediatric appointments before they suspected MD. It is very hard to describe to people the absolute devastation and helplessness you feel with this condition and only the other parents in the same situation can fully understand. We battle on...

Update 2009

Do things ever improve or do we just get on with life and the deemed 'normal' things which depict and dictate our lives - Do we ever find an answer to why this happens to us - or do we just accept that you never think this can happen to you and when it does your world is turned upside down and you get to thinking that maybe in the 'big' SCHEME of things you are being taught a lesson in humility and wonder to the thought that maybe in the scheme of things you are here with the tools and props you have been given to make a difference to the world to make people see that life is still fragile and sacred and precious - we need to keep focus on this and keep focus on our children who have been given to us for a reason that we as parents find strength in our pain and bewilderment enough to be able to give back to the community what we have lost - the connection and sharing - the sheer love and commitment to our children who we love un-conditionally - the fight goes on to make life the worthwhile cause it is!!
