It rained. It became dry. Then it rained some more. This year’s Great North Run certainly had a mixture of weather spells to say the least. However come rain or shine the smiles and laughs were plenty from those running on behalf of Action Duchenne at the Great North Run this year.
The 2010 Bupa Great North Run saw 54,000 people take part raising funds and awareness for various charities. Action Duchenne had 23 supporters taking part this year giving their all over the 13.1 mile course. We had supporters travelling from all over the country, as far away as Wales, to the North East to take part in the event.
The awareness raised of the condition and charity from those taking part has been incredible. Mother and supporter of Action Duchenne, Kathryn Armstrong, who some of you may know from this year’s Love Run was dressed as Wonderwoman on the day and was interviewed by Look North along with her husband Mark after completing the run.
Everyone’s support, hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated. Efforts such as this and all the other fundraising events that you take part in, or organise and put on, helps ensure we all keep moving forward to getting this desperately needed treatment and possible cure for those affected with Duchenne and Beckers.
A big thank you to all the runners who took part on the day with this great achievement. Also a big thank you to the families and friends that came along on the day as well that stood in the cold and rain to show support. And finally a big thanks to Vici Richardson who helped me out on the day for my first Great North Run ensuring it went smoothly.
