Sunday 22nd May 2011 saw the Edinburgh Running Festival get under way with some 30,000 people taking part in half marathons, relay teams and the marathon itself.

The day unlike the previous 2 years was not kind to neither runners or spectators. While runners appreciated the frequent heavy showers to cool down the winds ensured to make the course more difficult to complete. Spectators armed with coats and umbrellas continued to shout support to everyone taking part.

This year saw Peter and Sian Riley, David Montgomery and Patrick Bettie take part and complete the full 26 miles of the marathon to help raise awareness and funds for Action Duchenne. None of these supporters who ran the marathon have a child with Duchenne, however they understand the severity of the condition and cause of Action Duchenne by friends they know who do have a child with Duchenne. This helped drive them all forward to complete the marathon.

The determination of those running the marathon was incredible. Peter Riley, who travelled from Macclesfield to take part in the event, pushed himself so hard that he ended up needing an IV drip at the end of the run to help combat his dehydration! There are no limits to the support given when it comes down to Action Duchenne!!

A big well done to everyone who took part. Not only have you achieved completing a marathon, you have also helped make a difference to those affected by Duchenne. Thank you and again well done!!
