On Sunday 21st September I attended the Highland Dancing Commonwealth Championship at Stirling University along with families supporting Action Duchenne. The Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing held an “Assemble and Leap” concert last year to help raise monies and awareness for both Action Duchenne and MS Scotland. Action Duchenne was selected as one of the charities after hearing that Gareth and Donna Mitchelson’s son, Logan, had been diagnosed with Duchenne. Gareth and Donna are well known in the Highland Dancing community and with the support and hard work of former world champion Rachel McLagan and close friend and fellow dancer Gemma Baillie the Assemble and Leap concert was a great success.
The event to date has raised £8,000 of which both Action Duchenne and MS Scotland were presented with £4,000 each, with further monies to come later in the year. A big thank you to Rachel, Gemma, and the SOBHD dancers both national and international together with the choreographers involved in making this concert an incredible success. Also a big thank you to Gareth and his dad, David and Tina Burnett along with their 2 sons Isaac and Lukas and Arryn and Yvonne for coming along to the presentation and showing your support on the day.
