This years 2011 Great North Run again saw fantastic support and participation with parents, friends and supporters of Action Duchenne taking part in the biggest half marathon on the planet to help raise funds and awareness for Duchenne and Becker Muscular Dystrophy.
As seen in 2010 it would seem that the Great North Run would not be complete without downpours of rain mixed in with bright spells of sunshine. However the weather did not deter the mass of runners taking part this year including those running on behalf of Action Duchenne, who were grateful at times for the rain!
Ian Fleming, who has a son with Duchenne, together with his friend John Lyle were the first to complete the half marathon from the Action Duchenne team with an impressive time of 1 hour 31 minutes. This was the first time Ian and John had taken part in the Great North Run. Well done to you both!
Hot on the heals of Ian and John were Ian Ditchfield, Johnathan Calvert, Bernie, Nick and Michael Mooney who all completed the half marathon in less than 2 hours!
Andrew Maurice, Matthew Bardesley, Lisa Egan, Kathryn Armstrong and her husband Mark Armstrong, George Pegg,James Osborne, Rick Cousins, Jeannie Caine, Paul Consterdine, Rachel Kennedy, Dominic Bird, all completed the run within 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Franco Barnowski, Carol Forrest, Patrick O'Callaghan and Jake Maloney also completed this years Great North Run within under 3 hours.
Well done to everyone who took part this year in the 2011 Great North Run. Your support and hard work is greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping to make a difference.
