Zip slide over the river Tyne aghhhhhh! or weeeeeee!
jaynemthomas is...planning to do the zip slide off the Tyne Bridge 6th June. This is a big step (or slide!!) for me so hope it can be worthwhile in raising lots of money for Action Duchenne to further their quest to enable research to find treatment that will minimise (or stop) the wasting effect of this condition.
I also want to raise awareness of this condition as, until my grandson Zak was diagnosed at 18 months I was unaware of it myself. Duchenne is passed down through the maternal line and mainly affects the male child but there is no history of Duchenne in our family. It looks as if Zak is affected by what is called a 'spontaneous mutation'. This means ANYONE can be at risk. Although the percentage risk of a child being affected is greater if there is already a link within the family there is a risk to ANY child born.
Please support this cause so that we can minimise the risk for all. Research carried out not only benefits those with Duchenne but there are positive knock on effects for many dibilitating conditions. Your support is greatly appreciated
