Dinners may be scary, desserts however.... - Pauline

OK, I work full time, I have 4 children (3 are teenagers... please understand!)and of course Boris (the guinea pig), and my long suffering, very busy other half, Trev... but pride myself on supporting any and every Action Duchenne event I can. Heck, I will even jump from planes at 12,000 feet, dont you know?
But to be honest, Dinners4Duchenne, well, the idea gave me nightmares!
Yes its a fabuluos idea, something most people can do in their own homes, but here is the confession. I can't cook for love nor money, not a decent dinner I could invite people along to and expect them to pay for (although it did occur they may pay quite handsomely to get out quick).
But yesterday the answer to my dilemma came to me and has turned what was a nightmare into a very sweet dream!
2 of our wonderul supporters (and they know who they are) decided to "run" with desserts and wine, now this really is MY kind of thing! Chocloate mousse, bread & butter puddings, crumbles and custard, ice cream... the stuff dreams are made of.
They had several people offer to donate a dessert, everything could be made before hand, (no panic over soggy brocolli or bullet-like veg) and the ladies themselves made desserts too. Oh and dont forget the cheeseboard!
A letter to a local supermarket can help get money off the ingredients, and maybe get you a bottle of wine or 2.
Lets face it, who can resist an invitation to a dessert and wine afternoon or evening?
Needless to say their afternoon was a huge success, with people donating desserts and wine, and having a lovely time.
And to top it all, they raised £800 for Action Duchenne.
Now I'm actually pretty excited about doing an afternoon, evening, or maybe even both, with this twist on the Dinner4Duchenne theme.
If anyone else is taken with this idea, let me know... oh and "Looks Good, Tastes Great" and the "Caledonian Cookbook" have some amazing dessert recipes, if you dont already have copies, you can buy them via the webshop.
Dont forget to tell your guests how they can get their copies too!
ENJOY!

I am planning on holding another desserts4duchenne soon, hopefully the miles4muscles day in just over a week will help me avoid having to plan a diet4duchenne event!
Anyone else doing a something4duchenne event you could share?
