Our duty

We had our diagnosis for our son Aston in May of 2009. The news was obviously crushing news for myself and my partner Sarah but we've both made it our duty to give Aston a full and enjoyable life despite this terrible condtion.

Aston
Aston is a lovely, calm, kind and shy little boy who has lots of friends, and whom tends to befriend children who are smaller than him or whom he can help in some way. He runs away in the face of confrontation and is the first to say 'be careful' in any of those usual, daily parenting situations. He is bright and learning everyday and really enjoys his nursery school.
He loves superman and buzz light-year and has something of an obsession about flying, the ability to fly and anything, real or imaginary that can fly!
The duchenne means he currently can no longer get up steps, hop, jump, get up from the floor, put on his own shoes or walk very far without becoming tired, in pain or upset.
Aston knows he has 'poorly legs' but gets a lot of enjoyment out of the simplest of things. for example, this week in Wales we spent hours sat with our feet dangling into the stream just throwing rocks and listening to the splash!
