Hi everyone i'm Dawn and i'm the proud mummy of Brandon 10, Cai 8 and Logan 5 and also the extremely proud aunty of a very brave little boy Cameron 9. Since Cameron was diagnosed with DMD we as a family have been raising money and awareness of this cruel disease. My husband has run the London & New York Marathons, my dad has raised a lot of money through charity balls with clients, and my lovely sister Lisa Edmonds has had coffee mornings, makes cards donating money, run the addidas 5K along with my son Brandon and recently in November Lisa arranged a disco whereby everybody had lots of fun but more importantly we raised money and awareness for DMD! Unfortunately, i've been disabled for 3 years and had the misfortune of being in a wheelchair and bedbound and in excruiating pain. I've had my second major spine surgery and i'm slowly getting there!! This experience has shown me how ppl look at someone in a wheelchair, what its like to be bedbound and totally reliant on others and to be in such excruiating pain that you feel that you cannot go on. My family pulled me through this especially my sons and Cam. Their smiles made me strong. I strive to get better to achieve my goal of educating the world of DMD - i'll go house to house if I have to. Our gorgeous little boys never cease to amaze me - they always seem to keep smiling no matter what - an inspiration to us all!
Previously before having my children I worked in a top Solicitors and although I loved my job it was more important at the time to be a mummy, now my children are at sch i'd love to get back to work and as soon as i'm better I plan on doing this. However, my goal is now to work alongside or if there was a job opportunity with Action Duchenne in raising money & awareness and offering support to families.
My nephew is my baby boy too, I see what he goes through, what my sister goes through, the feelings I go through and can only use my pain as a mere guide as to what our brave boys go through. I will never stop striving for this goal - never - and wholeheartedly agree that its time to stop wasteing. I look forward to talking to lots of you and meeting u at events xxx
