Last week Matthew my stepson, was due to have his tonsils and adenoids removed at Cardiff Heath Hospital. His mum call as requested to check whether they had a bed for him. We were told yes and to take him in for 3pm. So last Thursday Matthew went into hospital with his mum and dad for 3pm, he was not admitted until 5pm, but no wristband was put on him. Matthew had his last meal about 6pm and was nil by mouth from 10pm. The next morning Matthew mum was told Matthew would be first to go down, she was then told that he wouldnt and that he would be last on the list as they were trying to get a bed for him in intensive care, (as Matthew had a back op last year and needed intensive care due to this they wanted to have a bed for him in intensive care. I would like to point out that Matthew was due to have this op last year and in October Matthew was admitted to Newport Hospital, only to be told that they could not do the op there as they did not have an intensive care unit. They did not even have his notes on that occasion, which is why Matthew was referred to Cardiff Heath), any way back to last week. We rushed over, we live in Weston Super Mare, North Somerset, an hour later we arrived, where we waited to hear what was happening, Matthew had the cream on both hands ready for the needles. At 11am a nurse came and said that they had a bed in HTU and that Matthew would be last. She checked to see if he could have a sip of water but was told no as it looked like it would be under 2 hours. At 12.30 the ladies told us that they had to hurry up as they were sending a trolley up for Matthew. At 1pm a Surgeon appeared and said that it would not be going ahead as a bed in htu was not good enough and asked why we had not been told. You can understand our frustration when we were told that it had been cancelled for the second time. We understand that things change. But Matthew was referred to Cardiff for the op last week because he needed a bed in intensive care. After last year shanigans and last week, this has been going on for over a year, waiting for an op. The question we are now thinking, is it meant to be. What are the benefits of having the tonsils and adenoids removed? Will it work? Is it worth putting Matthew through all of this if there are no guarantees? Can anyone tell us if there are benefits for the boys having it done? We are told it may improve his breathing and stop his snoring, but it is only 50/50. If this the case surely there is a point where you say enough is enough. It not giving up we will fight to the end to give Matthew his life, but on the other hand he also needs a quality of life. Its a fine line and we would welcome any one to comment on this and advise us.

Hi Tracy,
I would put this on the message board may get more of a response!
