We’re recruiting! Community Champions and Events Volunteers

Volunteer Roles Available: 

Community Champion

Be the face of Action Duchenne in your community. If you have a passion for organising events and socialising with others, then this could be the perfect role for you!

Why do we need you?
We are looking for volunteer Community Champions to help expand our reach to local communities. Could you spare a relatively small amount of your time to make a significant difference in helping us achieve our vision of a world where lives are no longer limited by Duchenne muscular dystrophy?

What you’ll be doing

  • Being creative in organising events and collections in your local area (e.g. pub quizzes, crafting sessions, coffee mornings, bowling nights etc)
  • Identifying fundraising partnership opportunities and nominating Action Duchenne with local groups and organisations (e.g. Mayor’s Funds, local schools, businesses, supermarkets, Round Tables, Masonic Groups, WI)
  • Using your social skills to build relationships with local organisations and schools to host events, or take part in other fundraising activity
  • Representing Action Duchenne at local events  (e.g. cheque presentations, Family Fun Days, school fairs)

You’ll ideally

  • Be enthusiastic about championing Action Duchenne
  • Have an interest in organising events
  • Enjoy socialising and connecting with others
  • Be a passionate person who can motivate others


What you’ll get

  • Become part of our Action Duchenne family of staff, volunteers and the wider community. We will support you and encourage you!
  • Make a significant impact, every hour of your time helps us to support children and young people living with Duchenne, their families and to fund research 
  • An opportunity to share your skills and develop new skills and enhance your CV
  • A sense of pride in hosting and organising events to help Action Duchenne
  • Regular training/CPD opportunities.

What we need from you

  • A commitment of at least 1 day a month or 2 hours per week
  • The minimum age of this volunteer role is 18, or supervised by someone over 18

We will provide you with t-shirts, banners, flags, postcards or any other items you need. All expenses related to the role will be reimbursed.

Event Volunteer

Be the face of Action Duchenne for our supporters taking on challenges. If you have a passion for supporting people, cheering and socialising with others, then this could be the perfect role for you!

Why do we need you?
Could you spare a relatively small amount of your time to motivate and encourage our runners, cyclists, walkers and wheelers? 

What you’ll be doing

  • Cheering for Action Duchenne event participants 
  • Meet and greet them after the race
  • Taking pictures of the event and our fundraisers
  • Writing a blog or putting together a social media post about after the event (optional)

You’ll ideally

  • Be cheery
  • Be chatty 
  • Be caring 
  • Great at time keeping


What you’ll get

  • The opportunity to be part of some major fundraising events such as the London Marathon and the Great North Run
  • You can make a tangible difference for our supporters who raise thousands of pounds for our cause, you will give them a real boost!
  • You will be using your cheery personality and your talents to encourage and motivate people for good
  • You will be able to meet other like-minded people who share similar wonderfulness to you
  • You will be helping to elevate our cause and vision that lives should no longer be limited by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy 
  • You will be helping others – it feels great to help out! 

What we need from you

  • Willing to travel to events
  • To be able to support us at at least one of our events each year
  • The minimum age of this volunteer role is 18, or supervised by someone over 18
