Dr Jarod Wong and Dr Claire Wood – Puberty, Bone Health and Weight Management in Duchenne

Dr Jarod Wong and Dr Claire Wood are both regular speakers at the Action Duchenne Annual International Conference, and are experts in the field of endocrinology.
Dr Wood is an Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Endocrinology at the Great North Children’s Hospital and Senior Clinical Lecturer at Newcastle University, and is also the co-chair of the DMD endocrine working group.
Dr Wong is a Paediatric Endocrinologist and leads the Bone, Endocrine,
Nutrition Research Group (BEN-G) at the University of Glasgow. His roles include
leading the Bone & Endocrine and co-leading the Nutrition Working Groups for DMD
Care UK, in addition to co-chairing OPTIMIZE-DMD, a consortium that is updating
international DMD bone and endocrine care standards.
We know that Duchenne itself and the steroids used in long term treatment of Duchenne impact many aspects of daily life. These 3 webinars will focus on navigating the challenges they bring to puberty, bone health and weight management and look at how to manage these in day to day life.

Tuesday 3rd June, 6pm: Osteoperosis and Bone Health with Dr Jarod Wong
Dr Jarod Wong will share insights from his current research and his wealth of experience informing the management and treatment of bone health in Duchenne.

Wednesday 4th June 6pm: Puberty and Awkward Conversations with Dr Claire Wood
Dr Claire will join us to share her experience of the impact of Duchenne on puberty, and how to have the conversations around the aspects of it that may be awkward and difficult to navigate.

Tuesday 17th June, 6pm. Weight Management and the Impact of Steroids with Dr Jarod Wong
Dr Jarod Wong will deliver a second webinar looking at how to manage weight gain as part of the impact steroids often have.
