Science Education Workshops: Decoding Duchenne Together

Decoding Duchenne Together

This Summer our fun filled family days will also offer you the opportunity to discover the science behind Duchenne. Held in Science Centres in three different locations around the country (Life Science Centre in Newcastle, Think Tank Science Museum in Birmingham and the Winchester Science Centre ), both our Support and Science teams will be on hand to make sure you get the most out of your day! While some of the family head off to explore the science centre, there’s the chance for you to join our BRAND NEW interactive science workshops.

Decoding Duchenne Together: Interactive Workshops

Following the incredible response and positive feedback from our Webinar Series 2026 we are excited to create an opportunity to continue those conversations in-person. The enthusiasm, curiosity and thoughtful questions shared throughout the series highlighted just how valuable it is for the Duchenne community have opportunities to learn, connect and discuss the science behind Duchenne together.

Building on this momentum, Action Duchenne’s dedicated Support Team has organised a series of regional family meet ups across England, bringing the community together in inspiring and interactive venues. These events promise a fun-filled day for the whole family with opportunities to connect, share experiences and make lasting memories.

As part of these exciting in-person events, Action Duchenne is delighted to launch a new series of Science Education Workshops. Hosted by Action Duchenne Science Team, these dedicated one-hour science workshops will take place at three of the regional meet-up events taking place in Newcastle, Birmingham and Winchester.

Who are the workshops aimed at?

These workshops are open to anyone who is part of the Duchenne community, including parents, carers, family members, health care professionals, siblings and people living with Duchenne. The content has been designed primary for adults and young people aged 14+ with no prior scientific knowledge. Whether you are newly diagnosed or have been part of the Duchenne community for many years, these workshops offer a unique opportunity to come together, explore the science behind Duchenne, ask questions, share perspectives and learn in a welcoming and supportive environment.

When registering, you will have the opportunity to submit questions in advance. Science expert will be on hand throughout the event to answer any questions and explore topics that matter to you and your family. Whether you are looking for answers or simply a better understanding of science behind Duchenne, we hope you will leave feeling more informed and supported.

Please note: The science workshop is intended for educational and informational purposes only. The content shared should not be considered medical advice and is not a substitute for guidance from your healthcare team. If you have any questions about your own or your child’s care, treatment or medical management, please consult your clinical or specialist healthcare team.

Turning Challenges into Change – Our Story with Action Duchenne

I was introduced to Action Duchenne by the Muscle Team in Newcastle shortly after Oliver’s diagnosis in 2017. In those early, overwhelming days, their support meant everything. Members of the Support Team would call just to let me talk, vent, cry — whatever I needed. They were simply there, and that’s why I choose to support them every …

Louise’s London Marathon Story

Louise’s London Marathon Story Written by Louise Ruddick “My relationship with Action Duchenne came about very spontaneously at the beginning of January this year. My brother, George, was diagnosed with Duchenne back in 1992, just before his third birthday. He was obviously too young to be aware however the impact that it had on our …

Parent Story: Scott and Vicki share their story of their son’s diagnosis of Duchenne and their family’s journey. “I was just sitting in the room and the doctor’s mouth was moving but I couldn’t hear anything that was coming out of it”  Parents Scott and Vicki have two children, Josh and Layla.
