A space to talk

October 20, 2020 by Lynnette

It is quite usual for people to be in two minds about starting counselling.

This is one of the reasons why we’re offering our families the opportunity to book a ‘counselling taster session’ with one of our trained counsellors which is a ‘gentle introductory’ meeting that’ll explore three main areas:

  • Firstly, it’s a confidential space where you can discuss the issues you would like to address in a safe and supportive way and obtain answers to your initial questions.
  • Secondly, it’s an opportunity to consider your next steps: You’ll also be able to discuss what kinds of therapy might best fit your needs and circumstances.
  • Thirdly, you can then go and make a more informed decision about whether or not you would like to start counselling in your local area in the future.

Find out more

Each session is 40 minutes and we are pleased to offer these tasters free of charge to Duchenne families. You do not need to take anything with you to the virtual face-to-face session, and do not need to prepare anything. We encourage you to sign up, to give the sessions a try. Places are limited so please book as soon as possible.

How to book

Already registered for the Conference? You will have access to the Conference Platform, where you can view and book the group sessions in the left side bar (see below)

Not registered yet? Register here for the Conference, you will receive your Conference Platform login details the next working day. Please then enter the Conference Platform, update your profile, check out the sessions and book on a group session (as per instructions above).

About the counsellors – Diane

Diane Stevens is an experienced Counsellor and Psychotherapist with offices in Harley Street and Cambridgeshire.

Diane has a vast track record of helping people with a wide range of issues, from depression to parenting, stress to bereavement.

She has over 20 years experience of working in private practice and the charity sector offering counselling, supervision and training. During lockdown, Diane donated her time to our ‘mental health and emotional wellbeing’ webinar sessions and gained a great understanding of the challenges faced by Duchenne parents.

Diane will be offering sessions of up to 40 minutes to help you explore the emotional challenges you might be facing. This might be related to the current global pandemic or your usual daily struggles. Nothing is off the list.

The 40 minute session with Diane will give you an opportunity to express your feelings and explore a plan for the future to help you to be supported emotionally should you need it.

About the counsellors – Louise

Hear from one of our counsellors, Louise, about her ‘space to talk’ sessions.

If you feel that you are going through the day wondering how things could be different or how you might be able to manage things differently then this is your chance to verbalise your thoughts and feelings without judgement and feeling disloyal to others you may feel you burden with your struggles.
