We are incredibly excited to announce details of ‘Horizons’, an inspirational new song, recorded by Jonathon Inkin, a 21 year old living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
Duchenne is a severe muscle-wasting and life-limiting condition and ‘Horizons’ was cowritten by Jonathon with his sister, Louise Cook. Jonathon lives in Cornwall and made waves on social media last year with his rendition of classic Christmas song Jingle Bells. At the time Jonathon said his performance was in memory of ‘all the brave Duchenne soldiers that have sadly lost their lives in the last 12 months’.
Martin Bashir backing the track
The track also has the backing of our patron, Martin Bashir, who recently featured in The X Factor: Celebrity. Martin participated in memory of his brother Tommy, who died from Duchenne aged 29.
Jonathon – what a fabulous efforts you’re making and I know you’re going to smash it!

Love of music
Jonathon says, “I recorded this new song because I’ve always loved music and over the last couple of years I’ve had lots of people asking to record my own song. Due to the amount of money I raised last Christmas, I set a goal in my head to raise even more for Action Duchenne.
Horizons is about me and my journey with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. I stopped walking at age 11 and our life expectancy isn’t very long as your heart and lungs are muscles and also weak.
My musical influences range from Frank Sinatra to singer-songwriters like Alec Benjamin. It was meeting Alec at his show in Cardiff and talking about touring and music that I thought ‘I really want this for myself!’ That gave me the bit of motivation I needed to drive myself to do it, so a massive Thanks to Alec!!
Vital support to families
“I feel very lucky to make it to 21 and that’s why I am proud to support Action Duchenne, a charity whose vision is for a world where lives are no longer limited by Duchenne. They provide vital support to families and your support for my song Horizons will help them continue their important work.”
As well as raising awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, all proceeds from the track will be raising funds for Action Duchenne. The charity has continued to provide vital support and advice for families affected by the condition throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

About Action Duchenne
Formed in 2001, we were the first national charity dedicated to supporting those living with Duchenne. Our work to date has seen over £10m invested in ground-breaking research, educational programmes and campaigns and we have made some incredible achievements.
At Action Duchenne we have a clear vision: a world where lives are no longer limited by Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
We are working to deliver the vision through our three core objectives:
- Developing effective treatments for all by funding research, educating clinicians and researchers, supporting clinical trials and campaigning for access.
- Building a community by uniting families, educating about Duchenne and raising the profile of the condition to a wider audience.
- Striving for a more inclusive society by promoting the importance of human equality, day-to-day acceptance of disability and accessibility for those with Duchenne.
