We had a fantastic time in Krakow through Enable Holidays. We stayed in Hotel WYSPIANSKI room 109. This was a fully accessible room with a massive wet room with shower chair attached to wall and rails either side of the toilet. There was plenty of room for wheelchair storage in room.
The hotel reception staff speak very good English and are available 24 hours. If you need anything in room it’s there straight away.
Breakfast is self service mainly continental but plenty of choice. At Breakfast you need to show your room cards, so if there are three of you, you’ll need to show all three room cards as they scan these through the computer before you sit down.
There is a supermarket on the left hand side around the corner open till 8pm. Tour events store is next to the hotel and the beer garden at front belongs to hotel serves drinks and food.
Easyjet were fantastic at both airports using the accessible check in and departures.
Thank you to our transfer team David our driver and Nina our rep, really looked after us. David was our driver for our trips to Aushwitz, Birkenhau and the Saltmines.
Please book these when you book your holiday as these tours get full. David booked us onto every tour and waited for us to finish. Nothing was too much trouble.
Trams
- Easy to use with wheelchairs.
- Always ask Hotel Staff what tram to get as they use the town maps and give you one.
- The tram board will show you all the tram numbers and if it’s got a wheelchair symbol next to it.
- When tram stops press the blue wheelchair button on the door.
- The driver will come out of cab and lower the ramp.
- You can buy tickets either at tram station or on tram.
Currency
- No need to use cash or exchange £ sterling.
- Everywhere takes Credit cards but pay in polish pounds not £ sterling. Polish pounds works out cheaper.
Places to visit
Aviation museum is fantastic, all wheelchair friendly – even the hangers! There is no need to book in advance.
Schindlers Factory is fully wheelchair accessible, some parts are narrow but chair will fit through. There are lifts to different floors and the staff are there to help you with your visit. There is no need to book in advance, you can pay on the day.
Krakow Main Square – We spent every night here. There are loads of churches, plenty of outside events on, everywhere is wheelchair friendly, plenty of different restaurants but pay by card in polish pounds.
The Jewish Ghetto is also wheelchair friendly.
The Eagle Pharmacy Museum is on the corner of the square. Although it isn’t as well known as Schindler’s Factory, the Pharmacy Under the Eagle (Apteka pod Orlem) played a critical role in the Kraków Ghetto, as the owner of the apothecary helped thousands of Jews.
The Square of Empty Chairs in Krakow is a memorial to the people who died in the German Nazi extermination camps. The chairs are strategically placed in the direction of which crematoriums the Jews from Krakow were taken to. Each chair represents one thousand people who were taken to their deaths. There are 68 chairs.
St. Marys’ Church De Bastille rings its bells every hour and a bugler plays a tune from top of tower.
The whole resort is amazing and a well worth visit. Enable holidays are the best to book with for any wheelchair holiday.
Thank you
We would like to thank Annie who booked our holiday and sent us out all the relevant information. Any issues we had we could email or ring her up and she solved them for us.
Thank you to David and Nina who looked afterwards in Krakow, both for our transfers to and from airports and our tours. We didn’t have any problems at all.
We are now planning our trip for next year and we will be using Enable Holidays again.
Barrie, Christine and Stephen.
