2023 is the year of the half marathon and family friendly, fully inclusive events!

January 19, 2023 by Victoria Young

It’s been a busy few months building our 2023 Events Fundraising challenges. It’s set to be an amazing year, with so many amazing individuals signing up to support us by running, completing a challenge or planning their own very special community fundraising event for us.

Half Marathons

Team Toby celebrating after the Royal Parks Half 2022

It is wonderful to see our loyal supporters returning from last year to support us again this year. In particular David Powton, who will be running his 4th Great North Run for us this September! Want to join him? Register here!

Our running events kick off on 2nd April, with the London Landmarks Half Marathon. We are a charity partner of this event, and can’t wait to see all our runners out enjoying what is set to be the most entertaining run route full of music, facts about London and a rave tunnel! For your chance to be part of our team at this amazing event you can register here.

We have Royal Parks Half, Oxford Half, and Edinburgh Half marathons on offer. You can also run any regional half marathon you want for us. Take a look at what’s near you here.

Superhero Series powered by Marvel

We are delighted to be an official Charity Friend of the Superhero Series powered by Marvel. It is important to us to be able to offer inclusive events, making sure those living with Duchenne, their siblings, their parents and other family members and friends can all take part and make memories.

Each event involves Superheroes and their Sidekicks and the opportunity to complete the events in the way you want to…we love how for the swim distance in the Superhero Tri that you can use a vessel to transport your Superhero!

You can take part in these fully inclusive events. We have kept registration fees and fundraising pledges low, however if you have an issue with paying the registration fee please do let us know at fundraising@actionduchenne.org.

Enabling us to support more children and adults living with Duchenne, their siblings, their parents and other family members

As a small charity, our approach to supporting our fundraisers is slightly different. We like to get to know our fundraisers, and help you as much or as little as you need. If you are living with Duchenne, a sibling, a parent, a family member or a close friend of the family and a fundraiser we offer the emotional support and understanding needed before, during and after the event.

You don’t have to be a fundraiser to get support from us. Dawn and I support many people and professionals in our roles, something we both have a lot of passion for. It is thanks to our supporters that we are able to do this, and that as a charity we can continue to reach out to more people.

We recently held our quarterly members meeting, where we gave an update on how their support is making an impact. And for our community and events fundraisers, you are also playing a part in making this happen.

If you want to support us but don’t have the capacity to take on an event then do consider becoming one of our members from as little as £5 per month plus lots of benefits!

Thank you!

Victoria and Dawn x

The Heart of Care

The Heart of Care We have had some key reminders of what we are working towards as a charity over the last few weeks. Volunteer’s Week (2nd – 8th June) was a chance to thank all of the people who give up their time and expertise for Action Duchenne. From the team of trustees, those …

Mental Health Awareness Week: Alex’s Journal

Written By Alex Berbank 15 Minutes a Day I’ve really enjoyed getting into the frame of mind to look at my mental health. Before this week I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. My ideas of what looking at my own mental health would look like weren’t accurate. I thought there would be more softly …
