Hear from Sofiya
“I am delighted and excited to join as the Science Communication Coordinator
and to begin my journey together with the wonderful team at Action Duchenne.
My career so far has entailed practicing as a dentist, research, teaching in
academia, and involvement in international healthcare organizations and
conferences. As these took place in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America, I have
gained some comparative international insights into healthcare research in different
countries.
I understand that I have been quite fortunate in my life thus far, so
giving back to others in return is part of who I am. My time spent in Tanzania and
India participating in volunteer programs were the most rewarding experiences in my
life. They have inspired me to find other ways to give back to my community,
whether this is mentoring others, sharing when I have expertise, or connecting
people. Each of us has a unique combination of different personality traits, which
brings its own successes and that is why it is so important to contribute to others’
work.
I understand how important initiatives such as Action Duchenne can be to
help people through challenging times. Adequate educational resources, healthcare
and treatment advocates, and community support are vital for many hoping to adjust
to a new reality. Therefore, I hope to be a valuable asset and to make a great impact
on people’s lives.”
