We’ve been chosen again by the lovely people at CAMRA to be their charity for the Great British Beer Festival. We’re asking the wonderful Duchenne community to get behind us and volunteer. Please help us make the most of this amazing opportunity; follow the link below, share with your friends, colleagues and family and sign up (you get free entry too!).
We were chosen to be CAMRA’s charity of the Great British Beer Festival in 2016 and had the BEST TIME!
We welcomed scores of volunteers from the Duchenne community; Members, Duchenne families, parents, carers, people living with Duchenne, businesses, pharmaceutical company representatives, clinicians and teachers!
Everyone who volunteered and proudly wore an Action Duchenne t-shirt truly made the event incredible. We not only raised an astounding £11,493.45, but talked to thousands of people about Duchenne muscular dystrophy and our vital work here at Action Duchenne.
What to expect
This year, the Great British Beer Festival is BACK for the first time since 2019, so it’s guaranteed to be the party of the year!
Expect lots of fun, laughter, and some incredibly generous people (some you will share your story with and inevitably some tears ). Expect to feel proud, buzzing with excitement and exhausted but happy!
The GBBF in 2016 was literally my favourite event. The people were so friendly and really wanted to hear about Duchenne and what it’s like for people, like my son, Samson, who live with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. I must admit it was a very emotional few days, talking to these wonderful people who really really wanted to help us, and inevitably dug very deep. I’d recommend volunteering at this event to anyone who wants to help Action Duchenne raise more money and spread the word about the condition.

About volunteering at the GBBF
It’s a wonderfully uplifting event to be a part of and we need you and your friends to volunteer for Action Duchenne to help us raise as much money as we can.
When you register to volunteer you will see there are a number of different volunteering shifts, please choose as many as you are able to by clicking ‘register’. If your shifts are back-to-back, we’ll make sure you have breaks;
- Please arrive 15 minutes before your shift for the team briefing
- During your breaks, and before or after your shift, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the festival and purchase half-price beer tokens thanks to the generosity of CAMRA
- Please remember you are a representative of Action Duchenne at all times when you are wearing your t-shirt
- We will send you an ‘elevator pitch’ about Duchenne and the work we do, so that you are comfortable with answering people’s questions, and what to do if the questions are more detailed
- People at the GBBF often are really interested in our work and are keen to hear more – we’ll make sure you are supported and know where to direct them
- If you have to cancel as a volunteer, please let us know asap via info@actionduchenne.org
Once you register to be a volunteer, we’ll be in touch with more information nearer to the event, but in the meantime if you have any questions or comments on the volunteer registration process, please contact info@actionduchenne.org.
What you will need to do before the event
- Add the date to your calendar here
- Buy a wig to wear (optional of course, but on the day you won’t regret it!) anything goes, so the crazier the better
- If you are volunteering on Thursday 4th August it’s ‘Hat Day’ at the festival, so wear a wig and/or a hat
- Download the ‘Zettle go’ app – we’ll share further details nearer the time
- Share the volunteering opportunity with your friends and family – the more volunteers we have, the more money we’ll raise!
Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you to the volunteer team!
