Yes I Can is back for 2023!

9 February 2023 by Lizzie Cox

Yes I Can is back for 2023!

We’re transforming transition for the future, are you with us?

Are you a young person aged 14-25 living with Duchenne? Would you like to;

  • learn to drive, or find out about accessible sport?
  • get practical information about applying for the benefits you need and how to access support?
  • find out what job or training opportunities are out there?
  • do more travelling or go to a festival?
  • build your confidence and make friends?

Have you dreamed of living independently but you don’t know where to start? Do you struggle with your mental health or feel anxious? Have you wondered how to employ your own team of PA’s? Do you want to take charge of your health care? Do you have ambitions that you need more support to achieve? Would you like the opportunity to talk about your experiences and share your skills?

You are invited to join a network of young 14-25 year olds across the UK who live with Duchenne to learn from the people who’ve been there and done it. You will also have experts at your fingertips to help you make it happen.

Sign up NOW to join us

Our 2023 sessions will be full of information designed to tackle the practical difficulties associated with gaining independence alongside also looking at mental wellbeing. We know that as a young person living with Duchenne, you have aspirations and ambitions just like any other: learning to drive, going on holiday, studying, living independently, finding a career, being in a relationship and getting married. We also understand the barriers that you face in order to make these happen and that mental stress, anxiety and isolation were top of the survey list of the challenges you experience.

Each session will have a guest speaker, as well as invaluable experience from adults living with Duchenne. This includes joint workshops with both Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance and Treloar College, sharing expertise and knowledge. This time round we want to open up the floor to our young people and give you the opportunity to share your experiences and skills in an ‘open mic’ session. There will always be space and time for you to ask your questions to make sure you have the information and the support that you need.

Our first online session of 2023 will be on Wednesday 8th March at 6pm. This will be an informal social session, designed to tell you more about what’s to come and for you to get to know us. They will run every 2 weeks on Wednesdays at 6 pm for 12 sessions.

We know that with the right encouragement, tools and positivity, you can realise your aspirations and create a bright future. It couldn’t be easier to sign up and attend your first virtual session. We can’t wait to support you in the next part of your journey.

Thank you

Louise’s London Marathon Story

Louise’s London Marathon Story Written by Louise Ruddick “My relationship with Action Duchenne came about very spontaneously at the beginning of January this year. My brother, George, was diagnosed with Duchenne back in 1992, just before his third birthday. He was obviously too young to be aware however the impact that it had on our …
