Action Duchenne is deeply honoured to be chosen as one of the charities for JLR Solihull’s ‘Season of Soul’ initiative. Ian Taylor, a Duchenne dad and JLR employee, nominated Action Duchenne and shared with the JLR team the challenges that families living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy face, as well as the impactful work of Action Duchenne.
“I’ve worked for JLR since 2014. Each year they have a charity drive called “12 Days of Christmas” where any employee can nominate a charity to receive a donation from the company. There are normally 50 or so nominations each year, and 12 are picked at random.
In January 2020 our son, Max, was diagnosed with Duchenne. Over the following months we were helped, and supported by Action Duchenne. We attended our first annual conference that November. After witnessing how amazing this charity is, and how passionate they are in supporting our community, My wife and I decided we had to get involved.
I ran the Tough Mudder, My wife organised a charity black tie evening, and I started to apply each year for the 12 days of Christmas.
Each year, I waited to see if my nomination was picked, but it never was. I didn’t get disheartened, all of the charities each year are worthwhile, and each as important to the nominee as Action Duchenne is to me. This year, ours was picked!
By raising awareness around Duchenne, and other disabilities, we can only make our future brighter.” Ian, Duchenne parent
On December 13th our CEO Florence Boulton and Head of Programmes Sadia Hussain were invited to JLR Solihull to receive a generous donation from the company. The cheque was presented by Curtis Hilton, Director of WM Stampings & BIW Manufacturing and Hayley Weaver, Resource Planning Senior Specialist.
Florence, expressed her gratitude to Ian and the JLR team:
“Our visit to JLR Solihull was both inspiring and insightful and we are incredibly grateful for Ian’s support and advocacy. It was fantastic to see the team’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable innovation, which aligns closely with our mission at Action Duchenne. Curtis and Hayley’s enthusiasm for creating fully accessible experiences for children and families, as well as their support for our Charity Dinner Dance and All-through Support programme, really stood out. Partnerships like this are essential in helping us build a brighter future for everyone in the Duchenne community.”
During the visit, the team was given an insightful tour of the production plants, and Curtis took the opportunity to learn more about Action Duchenne and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The conversation also covered the charity’s ground-breaking All-through Support programme, as well as the upcoming Charity Dinner Dance in March 2025, which is being organised by Ian’s wife, Ruth Taylor.
Our heartful thanks to Ian and the JLR team for selecting Action Duchenne as one of their chosen charities to support this Christmas.
