Our Support and Community Fundraising Officer and Duchenne parent Victoria Young went into her children’s school last week to give an assembly to pupils about Action Duchenne and to talk about how we are all unique but share similar experiences, and how many people have to ‘adapt’ and do things a little differently. She also showed a short video where a children got to meet a man living with muscular dystrophy and ask him questions
In lessons pupils across all years also learnt more about our muscle systems. They also read the The Abilities In Me – Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy book and got thinking about how living with Duchenne affects day to day life and what they can do to help.
The children were invited to go into school in their own clothes wearing either blue for Action Duchenne or red to represent the red balloons of World Duchenne Awareness in return for a £1 donation.
“Thank you again for all your work, the t-shirts and books really helped all the classes to feel part of the day.”
Serena Courtney, Oakley CofE Combined School
Thank you to all the wonderful staff, pupils and parents for their support, and thank you so much for creating such a wonderful atmosphere for your pupil Dougie who lives with Duchenne and his little sister Allie.
