How to talk to children about Duchenne – the early years
We know how hard it is for Duchenne parents, carers and family members to find the ‘right’ words to talk with children about Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
To help you and your family find the words, and to understand more about yours and your child’s feelings and thought processes, we are proud to bring you a webinar double-bill with crisis and bereavement expert Dr David Schonfeld.
This first of two webinars will provide an opportunity for caregivers to ask questions and offer their advice and how to initially inform their children of the diagnosis of Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and continue the discussion over time, in order to improve their children’s understanding of the condition and it’s treatment, promote their coping and adjustment and increase their willingness, ultimately to comply with treatment and begin to take more responsibility for their self-care. Questions related to talking with siblings, peers and school and the community will also be addressed. Together we can figure out how best to talk with and support your children.
